Nationwide service

Working Time Regulations mean that every employer must offer an annual health check to employees who work at night. Night working is defined as at least three hours of work between 11pm and 6am.

If you have staff working at night, you need to make sure you offer your staff a health check. It doesn’t have to be in person and an online questionnaire fulfils your legal obligations.

The Government and the HSE both have guides available to help you manage your risks too.

Why get checked?

Working at night can affect employee health and performance. You have a legal duty to offer an assessment to those starting to work at night.

All our clinicians have at least 15 years’ post-graduate experience, giving you robust and defensible advice.

We provide a same day service and complete all medical questionnaire checks with 24 hours.

With access to clinics nationwide and secure online services, we can help wherever you are.

Working at night can affect health adversely, it’s been linked to breast cancer rates, stress and anxiety.

Our certificates include guidance on reasonable adjustments for you to consider, if necessary.

Our questionnaire management system is available for clients 24/7, so you can work whenever it suits.

Our fees for processing night worker health assessments are fair and reasonable too, just contact us for more information.

We're here to help

You can use your own questionnaires and manage the assessment process yourself, although holding medical records can be tricky and can expose you to claims of discrimination too.

Completing our assessment process is easy. We zip you a link to send to the employees and they complete an online questionnaire. It’s secure and can be accessed on any device.

We review the answers and provide medical certification, plus advice about reasonable adjustments if they’re necessary.

We don’t charge extra if our clinicians have to make phone calls to follow-up any information given to us on the questionnaire.

Frequently asked questions

Employers are obliged by law to offer health assessments to people who work at nights. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) enforces regulations which are specified in the Working Time Regulations 1998.

Night worker health assessments can identify where night shift work may be causing health risks.

Employers are obliged by law to offer staff working at night regular health checks, but employees don’t have to have them if they don’t want to, they just have to be offered. Employers must offer assessments on a repeat basis, most chose annually.

If a health problem is found that’s the result of night work, employers have to offer appropriately alternative work if they can.

Working at night can cause serious health problems. Changing shift patterns can cause havoc with natural sleep patterns.

Night work can increase the risk of getting heart disease, diabetes and obesity.  Some studies have shown that eating at night, which many night workers will do, reduces your ability to process sugar or glucose.

Working at night has also been linked with increasing rates of breast cancer too, but it’s not clear if night work does or does not cause breast cancer.

If you work for three or more hours, between 11pm and 6am, you’re classed as a night worker.

Our fees are generally based upon a per-questionnaire completed rate, which means you won’t risk paying to cover employees who may not take up the offer of an assessment. We do have to reflect a fee for any follow-up work our clinicians may need to do, such as confirming the information provided by the employee, if it is incomplete.

Night worker health assessment questionnaires attract a fee of £30 each and can also be tailored to specific environments. Please contact us for further details.

We can provide certification within 24 hours, subject to completion of a standard service agreement. Please contact us for details.
