Get Britain Working white paper

Unions call for increased Statutory Sick Pay

The UK’s system of Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) is no longer fit for purpose given a three-day waiting period and the low level of payments once the benefit has commenced.  Trade Unions are now calling for the level of SSP payments to be increased, and our own Steve Herbert was asked to comment on these proposed changes by leading trade publication HR Magazine.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) was established some fifty years ago, and their influence has been pivotal in the reduction in work-related deaths over the half century since.  This impressive progress does however mask other issues, not least work-related illness, and the new challenges of presenteeism.  This useful item looks at the latest data and considers what it means for employers.
