“War on Woke” & the impact on the British workplace
The return of Donald Trump to the White House may have ramifications way beyond the US border. One change in particular – the rollback of EDI policies in the US – poses a challenge to British workplaces. Occupational Health Assessment Ltd surveyed 145 employers on this issue and our findings made headlines across many leading HR publications. A selection of just some of our media coverage sparked by our press release can be found below:
Steve Herbert also wrote a longer-form opinion piece on the findings in his monthly column for the Employer News website.

Ms Nishka Patel, a student at King’s College London GKT School of Medical Education, has been awarded the 2025 Sue Britton Bursary Award.

WASPI Women & The Darzi Report
At the end of 2024 the government took the controversial decision to overlook the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman’s recommendation to award compensation to those people represented by the Women Against State Pension Increases (WASPI) campaign. Yet this decision may distract from the challenges of longer working and decreasing healthy life expectancy. Occupational Health Assessment Ltd considers this important issue in this post.
Cost of living challenges
The cost-of-living crisis experienced in the first half of the decade has receded from the national headlines. Despite this household finances may soon be under pressure again in 2025. Steve Herbert looks at this important topic and suggests that for many workers the inflation crisis never went away. A useful opinion piece written for HR Magazine.
Further delays in social care reform
A failure to reform social care has led to a blockage at the top of the NHS system. This in turn leads to bed shortages and funding challenges throughout the national health service. Our blog post looks at the employment challenges this creates and the government’s latest plans to finally tackle this long-standing issue.

HSE investigates university over stress claims
The University of Birmingham is being investigated by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) after repeated complaints about work-related stress. Concerns were originally raised by the University and College Union (UCU) about high levels of workplace stress and a perceived lack of support from management.
